Trucks carry 18 billion tonnes of goods every year
76.4% of goods are transported by trucks around Europe, with 17.1% moved on the railways and 6.5% by waterway. These figures show the vital role that commercial vehicles play everyday in delivering fresh food to supermarkets for consumers or raw materials to companies.
85% of goods are transported over distances of less than 150 km
Trucks and vans are the most flexible, responsive and cost-effective mode of transport for the majority of goods and freight. Additionally they are essential to the functioning of the larger, integrated transport infrastructure network across Europe. New technologies and fuel-efficiency measures have made European trucks and buses the most technologically-advanced, clean and safe in the world. The European Commission forecasts that the share of freight carried by road will continue to grow.
